WEST HAVEN, CT (04/18/2012)(readMedia)--

Alexis Steere of Bel Air, Maryland was one of the students in the University's chapter of the American Criminal Justice Association who brought home 16 awards at the ACJA national conference held last month in Cincinnati.

The event was attended by 375 people and included workshops, academic competitions, presentations, crime scene competitions, guest speakers, firearms competitions and job fairs.

As part of the conference, Jenna Henning took part in a ride-along with a Cincinnati Police Department. "The experience gave me a great firsthand look at what it would be like if I pursue a career as a police officer."

Alexandria Rossy said the best part of the weekend was the chance to interact with representatives from agencies where she might like to work someday. "It was a great experience to meet professionals who, only a few years ago, were in the same position as me," she said. "Hearing their personal stories about how they started their careers definitely helped me in thinking of how to prepare for the future."

"These conferences really challenge me to apply all the knowledge I've learned over the past years," added Erin Wiswell '14, who captured several awards.
