Dylan Haenel Selected to Participate in Summer Fellowship at University of New Haven

Dylan Haenel of North Smithfield, RI has been selected to participate in the University of New Haven's Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program.

The program enables students to conduct in-depth, hands-on research, working in collaboration with a faculty mentor. Over the summer, students will conduct research, submitting a final paper and presenting their findings at a campus research symposium in the fall.

Haenel, a junior studying biotechnology says his project tests, "the ability of allicin, a compound found in garlic, to disable the protective barrier that allows Lyme disease causing Borrelia to resist antibiotics."

Haenel's faculty mentor is Eva Sapi an associate professor of biology and environmental sciences.
